Ken Hedler (Journalism ’78), reporter for The Daily Courier of Prescott Valley, Ariz., continues to rake in the awards, this time in the Arizona APME contest. He shared his award with Mirsada Buric, now a master’s student at Columbia University.

Daniel J. McClain (Communications ’79) is vice president of enterprise communications for Northrop Grumman and is responsible for employee communications financial media relations and communications operations.


Jim Fowler (Speech Communications ’82) is director of market development for Darmstadt, Germany-based Software AG. A singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, he recently released his first CD of children’s music, “One of a Kind.” Hi lives with his wife and daughter in Washington, D.C.

Vicky (Summers) Gallion (Public Relations ’88) is co-owner of The Gallion Company, a full-service marketing and public relations consultancy business specializing in entrepreneurs and small businesses. She previously was public affairs director of the Writers Guild of America.


Claudia Acosta (Radio-TVFilm ‘91) was recognized as an “Ambassador for Peace” at the Festival of Peace in Los Angeles in October 2008. The event is sponsored by the Universal Peace Federation. She produced a live performance for family and friends in honor of her deceased mother.

Barbara Dunning (Journalism ’94) is marketing communications manager for New Horizons Computer Learning Centers, Inc. She earned her M.B.A. from the Paul Merage School of Business at UC Irvine in June 2008.

David Jerome (Radio- TV-Film ’94) is author of “Roastbeef’s Promise,” a comedic travel adventure book published by Smackbooks and endorsed by radio personality Rick Dees.

Kevin M. Twer (Journalism ’94) is a group director with PainePR in Irvine and heads the public relations agency’s spots/auto practice.

Thomas C. Hanson Sr. (Journalism ’95) was named editor of the Palmetto Patriot, a quarterly publication of the South Carolina Society Sons of the American Revolution. He is founder of Hanson Communications in Greenville, S.C.

Mike McCormick (Journalism ’96) is editorial director for Major League Baseball Properties in New York.

Susan Silva (Advertising ’97) recently published a book as S. A. Silver through AuthorHouse titled “The Legend of Sleepers Forest.” Silva has a Web site at www. geocities.com/sasilver@ ymail.com.


Elita Loresca (Radio- TV-Film 00) is weather anchor for KNBC-TV in Los Angeles. She earned a Certificate of Broadcast Meteorology at Mississippi State University.

Laarni Dacanay (Public Relations ’03) was promoted to Diversity Communications Specialist for NBC Universal Corporate. Dacanay started at NBC in the press and publicity department in October 2003. She currently is the co-chair of the diversity committee for the Public Relations Society of America, Orange County Chapter, and is a founding member of CSUF’s College of Communications Alumni Chapter Ad Hoc Committee.

Dan McKernan (Entertainment Studies ’04) is marketing and public relations manager for the Big Bear Lake Resort Association.

Dr. Michael Moodian (M.A. Communications ’04; Advertising ’03) recently published his book, “Contemporary Leadership and Intercultural Competence,” through Sage Publications. The 20-chapt er volume addresses the evolving role of cultural diversity in contemporary organizations and includes wellknown contributing authors, such as Michael Dukakis and Fons Trompenaars. Heather DeLoach (Entertainment Studies ’07) is an actress who got her start as a dancing girl in a bee costume in the 1993 Blind Melon video, “No Rain.” She has appeared in “The Beautician and the Beast.”

Kristen McDonald (Entertainment Studies ’07) is an events coordinator/ junior account executive for Premiere Media Group in Newport Beach.

Tracy Richmond (Entertainment Studies ’07) is working as a media and communications coordinator at The Honda Center.

Rhoji Kure (RTVF ’08) had his short film, “A Black Lie,” selected as one of the top 40 out of 532 entries in the Akira Kurosawa Memorial Short Film Competition in Japan. He and his crew produced the film in Professor Jackie Frost’s film class in spring 2008, with script assistance from Professors Jule Selbo and Bob Davis.

Kathy Wetherell (Radio- TV-Film) was killed in an automobile accident Dec. 20 in Arizona. She was 48. Wetherell was a cum laude graduate who broke into television on “General Hospital” before becoming a producer, director and show runner on many reality shows. Some of her credits include “The Bachelor,” “The Real World,” “Outback Jack,” and “Road Rules.” She is survived by her husband, parents, brother and nephews.
