Cal State’s Public Relations
Student Society of America took on an ambitious
project in April 2005 and hosted a regional conference at the Fullerton
Marriott Hotel. Attendees came from surrounding states as well as
other state universities to hear speakers and panelists talk about
public relations in the 21st century.
They came from Disney, The Orange County Register, Nederlander Concerts
and the Anaheim Mighty Ducks. The closing banquet featured speaker
Michael Levine, author of “Guerilla PR.”About 120 students
attended this first-time conference.
The Department of Human Communication’s chapter of the
National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association
(NSSLHA) was honored in fall 2005 to serve as ambassadors
at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association annual convention
in San Diego. The chapter submitted an essay reviewing the chapter’s
accomplishments and received the opportunity as the only student
chapter in the country to serve as “hosts.”
The CSUF student chapter president, Nicole Fivecoat, led an entourage
of 21 student participants. Also, the chapter received a $500 stipend
for its service. In addition to this special chapter honor, student
Shannon Phillips received Member Honors for her scholastic achievement,
professional conduct and service from the HSSLHA Executive Council. |
