Professor
Carrie Perry’s (Advertising) insatiable curiosity,
constant questioning, and voracious reading, led her eventually
to a teaching career.
Her passion for learning was instilled early by her mother. Not
satisfied to be “read to” she insisted on reading herself,
thus beginning a life-long obsession.
However, the path to teaching was circuitous— first working
in the trust department of a bank then as a stock broker, she first
pursued a degree in biology, switching to psychology, business,
and finally returning to her true love: reading and writing.
After leaving Wall Street, she finished her B.A. degree in English
literature at Cal State San Bernardino and then moved on to receive
an M.A. degree in 19th Century British literature from Cal State
Fullerton in 1996.
During her M.A. pursuit, Perry was director of education for Sylvan
Learning Center and also tutored CSUF students in the writing lab.
Paying her dues as a “road scholar” and teaching literature,
argument, persuasion, and various writing classes at numerous community
colleges and UC Irvine, she is now at home at CSUF, teaching advertising
and business writing.
Her passion for teaching, enthusiasm for writing, and reading helped
earn her the Outstanding Part-time Faculty Award in the Department
of Communications in 2005. In her spare time she is simultaneously
writing a mystery novel and an advertising textbook.
